A position he has held since January 1997. Mr. Hash is a seasoned financial services executive with over 37 years experience in managing various aspects of financial services including branch banking, mortgage banking and consumer lending, and compliance administration. Prior to joining MECU, Bert Hash was employed by Provident Bank of Maryland for 11 years in positions that included managing director, division manager of mortgage banking consumer lending division and managing director of community relations. Additionally, he spent 15 years with Equitable Bank in positions as vice president, branch manager, mortgage underwriter and appraiser, loan officer and secondary market manager.
During his 11-year tenure in the Credit Union industry, he has served on the Maryland Credit Union League’s (MCUL) Campaign for Consumer Choice Committee and the MCUL Task Force for the Rewrite of the State Credit Union Law. In addition, he serves on the Governmental Affairs Committee for CUNA. He is the Treasurer for the Board of Directors of the Maryland Credit Union League and Treasurer for the Maryland Credit Union Foundation. In addition, he is the Secretary of the African-American Credit Union Coalition (AACUC). He is a newly appointed member of the CUNA Mutual Board of Directors.
Active in numerous professional and civic organizations, Mr. Hash serves on Baltimore Development Corporation’s Board; a Trustee of St. Ignatius School; serves as President of the Board of Directors for the Sandtown Habitat for Humanity; serves as Vice Chairman for New Song Urban Ministries; is a member of the Board of Directors of Morgan State University’s School of Finance Advisory Board; serves as Chairman of the Industrial Development Authority of Baltimore City; and is a member of the Financial Literacy Coalition.
He was named Morgan State University’s Alumnus of the Year in 1999 and was the recipient of the 2004 Judith A. Burgin Memorial Professional of the Year Award from the Maryland Credit Union League. In February 2007, he was named the 2007 CEO of the Year by the Credit Union Times Magazine.
